Vinod Gupta: Education

The article, “Vinod Gupta Invests in Women’s Education” by Anthony Vega, is a list of the several investments that Vinod Gupta has made in education, as well as a little background information about Gupta. In this article, Vega describes Vinod Gupta as “a self-made multi-millionaire” (Vega, Anthony). According to Vega, Gupta began school in a small Indian village, but attend college at the Indian Institute of Technology. After Vinod attended the Indian Institute of Technology he left India and went to the United States to attend the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. There he earned his Master’s in agricultural engineering and business. Today, Vinod Gupta is the current Managing General Partner for Everest Group.


Vega also states that Vinod Gupta has invested a large amount of money in education. He has invested over $50 million in education by making scholarships, programs, and schools. For example, he has donated $1 million for the development of the Ram Rati Gupta Polytechnic and in 2000 he established the women’s polytechnic school. He has also started and funded courses at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.


Vinod Gupta even donated $2 million to create Vinod Gupta School of Management, which is one of the top business schools in India. Not to mention that he established Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law in 2006, and started a $500,000 scholarship at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln for minority students who want to enter the science or engineering field. But most recently Vinod Gupta partnered with the George Washington University of Business and the U.S. Department State’s Office of the Global Partnership Initiative, in order to develop a fellowship program in his late son’s honor.
