Shafik Sachedina is a dental surgeon who obtained his qualification in 1975 from University of London’s Guy’s Hospital Medical and Dental School. After practicing for many years in England, Sachedina developed entrepreneurial interests in the health-care sector.
Sachedina who is a British national served as director in different companies including Imara U.k. Limited. He was appointed on the 25th of January 1992. He was also a director at The Horsham Clinic Limited.
Sachedina established Sussex Healthcare, an independent group of care homes whose main focus is on caring for the elderly and people with mental disorders like dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease. Sussex Health Care which is located in Sussex also provides specialist care for adults who have learning difficulties. Under the leadership of Dr. Sachedina, the group aims to become the leading provider of nursing and residential care for older people as well as those with neurological disabilities.
In 2002, Sussex Health Care received accreditation from the Health Quality Service and the following year; they achieved the Investors In People standard. In June 2005, they gained International standard ISO 9000:2000 as a result of their quality management system, making them the first and only independent care home provider to have been granted dual accreditation for HQS and ISO in the UK.
Passionate about providing quality health care for their patients, Sussex Health Care recently awarded Six of their staff with a Level 5 Diploma in Professional Practice from University of Chichester.
This is to enable the workers to obtain a higher education qualification. Which will, in turn, allow them to study for a BA degree. Dr. Sachedina is confident that this achievement will impact on people’s lives and will greatly improve the quality of service offered to their patients.
Sachedina who was born in may 1950, in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania serves in many capacities including Head of the Department of Jamati Institutions Aiglemont, France under the authority of His Highness Aga Khan. He oversees the programmes and activities of 16 different institutions of the Ismaili community.
Dr. Sachedina is a member of the Ismaili Leaders’ International Forum and Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) Committee. He is also the served as two-term Ismaili Council President for the United Kingdom.
Shafik Sachedina interfaces with the Ismaili community’s institutions in Central Asia and the Aga Khan Development Network Programmes. It is on record that Sachedina serves in a voluntary capacity with the Aga Khan as well as Jamati Institutions. This is in line with the community’s age-long tradition of voluntary service.
