Jacob Gottlieb story at both personal and career levels is quite inspiring. Gottlieb was born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. His parents had immigrated to the United States from Poland in the 1960s. Gottlieb’s father was a Professor of Economics in New York while his mother was a pediatrician. His parents’ careers played a crucial role in his career choice.
Gottlieb earned his B.A in Economics from Providence, Rhode Island at the Brown University. He attended the University Medical School in New York for his Medical Degree, where he emerged as the best student. Even after doing his internship at New York City’s St. Vincent’s Hospital, Gottlieb had a profound interest in economics. He resolved to join the stock market.
Gottlieb was an active member of the foundation of Balyasny Asset Management, L.P. He also worked for Merlin Financial in London as an investment portfolio manager. While at this position, he was instrumental in the growth and performance of the company. Gottlieb had started off his career at Sanford C. Bernstein & Co., LLC. This was after he had received his Chartered Financial Analyst certificate from Association for Investment Management and Research.
Interestingly, his natural talent for the financial market was evident during his teenage years. An ardent fan of baseball, Gottlieb worked as a trader of cards. He had a collection of most teams in the league. His father had recognized this natural intellect and encouraged him to pursue that line. Gottlieb had entered a contest while still in 7th grade and emerged among the best for choosing the winning stocks. He was also a budding entrepreneur at a local golf course. Gottlieb would buy supplies at the grocery store and later sell beverages to the golfers. He was using a cart to move around the course.
His experience in the financial sector and natural talent inspired Gottlieb to start his company. He founded Visium Asset Management, LLC in 2005. Gottlieb worked as the Chief Investment Officer as well as a Managing Partner.
Jacob Gottlieb is compassionate and has supported many nonprofit organizations. One of the beneficiaries of his philanthropy is Covenant House, an organization helping homeless children. They usually visit schools to find homeless kids or those who need help. The organization has built strong connections with the community in addressing challenges facing children.
